Can Antioxidants Slow Down The Ageing Process? – The Truth Revealed!

Who knew that antioxidants are associated with aging? Well, it was proven that the antioxidants found in tea, grapes, blue berries, coffee, wine, and some vegetables and fruits can prevent aging and boost your lifespan. As a person ages, the cell division as well as replacement of the damaged or dead cells slows down. The antioxidants may speed up the processes of cell replacement and cell division that can help slow the overall aging effects and prevent any age-related diseases.

Antioxidants Neutralize Free Radicals

The antioxidants can neutralize free radicals in the body, which can be harmful as these cause some serious life threatening or serious diseases and health issues such as degenerative brain disorders, diabetes, immune dysfunction, cancer, and heart disease. Free radicals exist everywhere in the environment, yet they’re concentrated in chemicals, sunshine, unhealthy foods, drugs, alcohol, pesticides, radiation, and pollution. The antioxidants can help keep one’s cells youthful and healthy, which may prevent some age-related illnesses, improve your lifespan, and relieve stress.

Foods Rich in Antioxidants Will Keep You Youthful and Healthy

Antioxidants found in the food sources commonly include vitamin C, zinc, selenium, beta carotene, and vitamin A. Beta-carotene belongs to the family of nutrients known as carotenoids. Such antioxidants are responsible for an orange pigment seen in carrots, sweet potatoes, and cantaloupe. They’re renowned to boost one’s immunity. Generally, the richer the vegetable’s or fruit’s color, the more amount of antioxidants it has. According to laboratory studies, it was also found out that the lycopene is a powerful carotenoid in terms of fighting against particular kinds of free radicals.

Antioxidants May Prevent Particular Age-Related Diseases and Aging

There are some particular ways that antioxidants could prevent age-related diseases and aging and boost your life span and these include:

Through targeting cancerous, unhealthy cells and destroying them, the antioxidants are being studied as a cancer treatment in combination with the radiation. It’s also believed that antioxidant reservatrol might minimize the resistance of pancreatic cancer to chemotherapy.

Through keeping the cells healthy, antioxidants may help you feel and look young while preventing particular kinds of diabetes and cancer. Healthy and youthful cells also give more immunity to viruses, infections, and flues.

Through minimizing the unhealthy cholesterol’s oxidation and relaxing your blood vessels, the antioxidants may keep you feeling energetic and youthful while minimizing your risk of strokes and heart attack.

Add Some Antioxidants to Your Life

It is easy to increase your intake of the antioxidants. Through eating vegetables and fruits that are dark-colored and drinking green, oolong or black tea daily, you’ll be consuming healthy antioxidants each day.

Coffee lovers who drink up to 2 cups of coffee daily may also get some antioxidants, regardless if it’s caffeinated or not. Drinking a glass of wine daily will improve your intake of antioxidants that would keep you feeling youthful and young and boost your lifespan.

There might be no way for everyone to stop the process of aging. But, with the use of antioxidants properly, you can work to stop the damaging effects, which free radicals caused on your skin so that you can preserve more youthful and much younger skin for a long period of time.

Best Quick Tips to Boost Self Esteem After Pregnancy

In a study, there’s interesting news about women, after their pregnancies, were found that their self-esteem fluctuates. It reduces during the thirtieth week of the pregnancy period and rises until the kid is 6 months old and declines at least the next 2 ½ years. But, the good news is that maternal self-esteem can be recovered.

According to experts, what women should do to boost their self-esteem after pregnancy is to follow these tips:

Keep Communication Lines Wide Open – One of the things that was discovered in the study was that self-esteem and relationship satisfaction are linked. The self-esteem of a woman is better if the romantic relationship is better. Relationship mentoring can be advantageous for women after pregnancy as the relationship between parents may change a lot once there’s a baby, especially when it comes to being intimate. There could also be some complicated conversations, making the situations for women more challenging. So, the best solution is to keep communication lines wide open with your partner and taking some time to talk about important things to avoid decreased level of self-esteem.

Set Some Filters – People want to provide women with so much advice. It is frequently one person states this and that and there’s a lot of feelings judged. It could make the most confident women doubt about themselves and their choices. So, creating filters can make mothers avoid conflicting advice.

Do the Things That Make You Feel Great – Some people don’t like the term self-care for the mothers for the reason that they think mothers much be a bit more cared for by some people instead of admonished to do-it-yourself, yet the fact remains that it is much easier to fall into the downward spiral of the actual harm and self-neglect.

According to experts, they know when women are stressed and exhausted, they easily neglect their emotional and physical health and that it’s essential to find time for the small moments of pleasure. So, look for something that would make you feel great about yourself and try prioritizing some time for this, whether it is a daily walk, exercise, or pedicure or something that would help you keep hold of that part of you until you have more time.

All of those measures can be helpful for women who lose their self-esteem after pregnancy. It’s normal to have doubts, yet there’s nothing to be ashamed of. It’s okay to experience a combination of feelings, but always focus on the bright side of the situation. Losing self-esteem after pregnancy may have negative effects not just to yourself, but also to your child as you will neglect the importance of being healthy. Since you are too focused on the problems or concerns you have in mind, you might forget about your baby’s well-being. So, if you don’t want this to happen, keep those tips mentioned above and see the difference of having a good level of self-esteem to the overall health of yourself and your baby.

Whats the best make-up for oily skin?

What’s the Best Make Up For Oily Skin? Here’s How to Pull Off a Fresh Makeup Look

If you have oily skin, you know how nightmarish it is to wear makeup. Making your makeup last throughout the day, preventing the much dreaded shine on midday, and ensuring you don’t get breakouts can all be a hassle. However, it doesn’t mean that you can no longer wear makeup at all. Yes, make up for oily skin is still very much possible when you know how to do it right.

Shop for the Best Make Up for Oily Skin

The best makeup for oily skin must give you a flawless finish through the day without causing clogging on your pores. Here are some of the products you have to look for when buying your new makeup:

Oil free – The oil free formulations have the tendency to last longer on oily skin. Such products have the tendency to be a bit thicker formulation which makes it possible to use them sparingly.

Matte finishes If you are looking for base products such as foundation, the matte finishes will be able to help in controlling shine all day long while lasting longer as well.

Non-comodogenic – It means that this formula will not cause clogging on your pores. Many base products are going to claim that they are non-comodogenic for your skin to stay blemish free.

How to Prepare Your Oily Skin Before You Apply Makeup

Taking care of your skin prior to makeup application can help improve its look and the length of time it stays on your skin. Follow these simple tips before you touch that foundation brush:

Exfoliate Through eliminating dead skin cells, you will be able to even out the texture of your skin for a much smoother finish. Stay away from anything too harsh or abrasive as this can irritate your oily skin. You can also maintain the good condition of your skin with the use of a good exfoliator at least once every week.

Moisturize – Never listen to myths saying that people who have oily skin don’t have to moisturize. When you let your skin dry out, this will react through increasing its oil production. Try keeping the production of your natural oil under control by ensuring that your skin gets the nourishment it requires.

Be patient – Allow your skincare products to sink into your skin before you apply makeup. Wait for 10 minutes between moisturizing and putting on your makeup.

Steps for Makeup Application on Oily Skin

Use a primer to smooth out your skin for a more flawless finish and ensure that your makeup will last longer on your skin. Use one with Silica for additional matte effect.

Use a big buffing brush to apply your foundation in several light layers to make it last longer.

When applying your foundation, allow it to set before putting on powder. It can do wonders if you leave it for 5 to 10 minutes to bond to your skin.

Don’t over powder during the day as it will just give your makeup a cake appearance and encourage more oil production from the pores. You can use blotting papers for quick touchups throughout the day.

Balance your hormones naturally

Balance Your Hormones Naturally to Be Healthier and Feel Better

Deficiencies, excesses, and fluctuations in hormones can cause changes in your physical body, mind, and emotions. When you balance your hormones naturally, you can think clearly, sleep well, feel good, become emotionally steady, and have better chances of staying healthy. If your hormones are not in balance, there are several symptoms that might arise, such as rage, low energy, weight gain, depression, fibroids, hair loss, loss of sexual drive, and even cancer.

To keep your hormones in check, here are several ways you can follow for you to feel better and stay healthier:

Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Sleep is the best time when your body recovers from the imbalances it suffered during the day. When you lack enough sleep, your hormones swing to overdrive. Make sure you get at least  8 hours of good sleep each night.

Reduce Your Stress Levels

Studies revealed that people who engage daily yoga or meditation have lesser hormonal swings compared to those who don’t meditate stress in any way. Also, it is important to get enough rest. Most people today have hectic schedules that their body has very little time to readjust from the demands of life. It can disrupt the body’s natural hormones cycle. Look for small ways to relax and rest all day long.

Follow a Healthy Diet

Add more fresh and organic vegetables and fruits to your diet together with more seeds and raw nuts. Foods like processed carbohydrates, soft drinks, fried foods, processed vegetable oil, soy products, and enriched flour can all affect hormonal balance. Stay away from non-organic dairy items that often contain dangerous bovine growth hormones, antibiotics, and steroids. All of these can wreak havoc on your body.

Add Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Such fats act to produce healthy and responsive cell membranes that allow hormones to easily adhere to cells. Omega 3 fatty acids can also help your body in keeping its cellular receptor sites in optimal condition and repaired. You can try to eat foods that contain omega 3 or you can also take 500 mg of organic oil of high quality such as olive, flaxseed, or hempseed oil.

Forget Caffeine

It has been revealed that stimulants like caffeine can lead to over production of hormones in the adrenal gland. Try to cut out or cut down your daily caffeine intake.

Get a Dose of Sunshine

You will be able to stabilize hormones when you give your body a good amount of full spectrum light from the sun. I know we dont get much sun here in Britain but take advantage when the sun decides to make an experience by taking a stroll whenever possible. It can help you get your much needed exercise and the sunshine needed by your body.

Exercise Regularly

Make sure you incorporate a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise thrice a week to your routine. Create a schedule that you will be able to follow on a regular basis.

Low libido is among the most common sexual issues that many modern women experience these days. There are many factors or reasons why a woman suffers from a drop in sex drive. But, the worst thing that can happen is when it starts to affect your relationship, especially because sexual gratification of both partners is one of the most crucial aspects of a healthy and long relationship.

Good thing there are now many ways on how to enhance your libido naturally. If you don’t want to compromise your romantic relationships, or put a strain on your marriage, make sure you take note of these simple methods to boost your sexual drive the natural way.

Exercise happens to be one of the best ways to ensure that your body stays fit and in proper shape. Aside from that, exercise also helps in increasing the circulation of blood to your genitals. Low blood circulation is found to be among the main reasons behind sexual dysfunction and reduced libido in women.

Say No to Stress

As far as women are concerned, their brain is also equally involved during the sexual process. Even the smallest things that can disturb them emotional can already have an impact on their libido or sex drive, and make them lose interest in engaging in any sexual act. Reducing your stress factors is one of the best methods to enhance your libido naturally. When your mind is at peace and in better state, it will be easier for you to feel aroused, and you will find sex more enjoyable. There are several relaxation techniques that can help you here, and these include meditation and yoga.

Herbal or Natural Libido Enhancers

There are now natural supplements which can give women the same effects and benefits as what the little blue pills were able to do for men. Such supplements are basically a powerful combination of different natural ingredients such as minerals, vitamins, amino acids, and herbs that don’t just increase the flow of blood to the clitoris but can also enhance the production of sex hormones such as testosterone and estrogen without the harsh side effects brought about by hormone replacement therapy.

It will not only help improve libido and sex drive in women as this can also guarantee relief from some other issues like vaginal dryness, which is also a very uncomfortable problem for the ladies.

This kind of supplements are absolutely safe and don’t require prescription. These don’t cause any side effects, and will not interfere with other medications you are currently taking like birth control pills. Aside from these supplements, you can also find some fast acting and natural lubricants that are a great choice for those women who are not open to the idea of taking pills.

The herbs i would personally recommend for women:

  • Catuaba has been used for centuries as a aphrodisiac in Brazil as it contain three specific alkaloids that are believed to enhance your libido including yohimbe which is the most active component.
  • Damiana a shub native to Mexico is not only an aphrodisiac but also a great anti depressant and calming tonic.
  • Maca known as the superfood is great for enhancing your libido and also balancing your hormones.
  • Panax gingseng has many benefits from boosting your immune systems and lowering blood sugar levels. Gingseng is great for women who are going through menopause.
  • Ashwagandha a natural ayuvedic herbal aphrodisiac was mentioned in the Kama Sutra and has been used throughout Asia and Africa as a sexual stimulant.

These are just some of the ways to help ladies enhance your libido naturally.

1 Smoothie to aid rapid weight loss after pregnancy

One of the biggest complaints mothers have is weight loss after having a baby. In addition to loose skin, lack of sleep which in turn can open the doors to various other health problems; it can be difficult bouncing back to your pre-pregnancy self. One change I noticed after having my son is because of all the hormonal changes, my body was incredibly soft and jelly like would be the best yet non-scientific way to describe it but that was what was the first thing that popped into my mind…jelly.
Pre-pregnancy I weighed around 140lbs give or take which then dropped dramatically (which is normal) within my first trimester to about 125-130lbs in a matter of weeks due to loss of appetite. This of course all changed in my second to third trimester when I weighed around 160lbs. Pregnant and breastfeeding women are recommended to eat an extra 500 calories per day and the beauty of breastfeeding is that it actually aids weight loss. According to the La Leche league it takes 20 calories to produce 1oz of milk so for instance an 150lbs women can burn approximately 500 calories a day.

The built in detox system

The liver is our largest internal organ and is responsible for regulating, synthesizing, storing and secreting all of the important nutrients and proteins. A healthy liver aids the detoxification process as everything we eat is broken down, absorbed into the blood stream as is passed through the liver which in turn rids any toxic substances within the body.  According to Dr. Michael Gershon a professor of pathology and cell biology from Columbia university of New York the body is well equipped to rid any toxins that enter the body all by itself. This of course varies for every individual as there are a few exceptions for those for instance who have liver diseases caused by excessive alcohol consumption or Heptatis A,B or C which can cause toxins to accumulate within the body.  But according to academics there isn’t any solid scientific evidence that cleanses and detox actually work.
In my opinion I know what works for me and my body and I disagree that cleanses, fasting and detoxing aren’t beneficial for the mind body and soul. As I will be doing another post on fasting, I will save the benefits for another post but I experienced the following once I started eliminating and adopting a healthier lifestyle which includes mild detox’s:
  1. Clearer skin and less breakouts (after the initial detox)
  2. More frequent bowel movements (2-3 per day)
  3. Less bloating
  4. Increase in energy
  5. Less sugar cravings

Blending convenience

One thing I value is convenience as a mother so I like many would rely on quick fix smoothies and shakes. My number one go to smoothie would be my ‘Clean Green’ smoothie; high in fibre, essential fatty acids and vitamins and minerals. Most importantly it can be made  and consumed in less than 10 mins; while cleaning, while breastfeeding your baby in your sling…you get the point.
Name: Clean Green shake
Benefits: High in antioxidants, fibre and essential fatty acids
Level: Easy
Time: 10 mins (unless steaming method used)

1/2 tbsp Spirulina

Not only is this seed also high in fibre but also Contains alphalinolenic acid (ALA) a plant based omega-3 fatty acid which can help reduce inflammation but also according the journal An increase in Omega-6/ Omega-3 fatty acid ratio increases the risk for obesity  written Dr Armetis Simopoulos founder and president of The centre of genetics, nutrion and Health in Washington D.C an  increase in omega 3 can also help with weight loss.

Recommendations

Taste for me personally isn’t everything when it comes to eating healthy but it does make a bit easier when your dishes and juices are more palatable so if you want to add a natural sweetener I would recommend the following but try to use small quantities as this is a smoothie to aid weight loss:
  • Raw honey
  • Medjool dates
  • Stevia
  • Molasses
  • Coconut sugar
  • Fruits

Here is a list of the products that I personally buy on a regular basis.
